the voice-capture method
How to make anything you publish sound exactly like you, even when AI writes it. The system we used to fool a 2.8M-subscriber audience.
Everyone tells you to "find your voice." Nobody tells you how to actually capture it and reproduce it on demand, especially if you want to write faster, delegate, or use AI without sounding like a robot. This is that method.
the insight everyone missesHere's the thing almost nobody understands about voice on LinkedIn: the problem is never the writing. It's the input.
Generic content, whether written by a tired human or by AI, sounds generic because it started from generic raw material. A thin brief, a few bullet points, a one-line prompt. Garbage in, garbage out. You cannot write something that sounds like you from material that contains none of you.
Get the input right and everything downstream sounds like you automatically, whether you write it, a teammate writes it, or AI assists.
what "your voice" actually is: the 6 ingredients
- Vocabulary, the specific words and phrases you actually use (and the ones you never would)
- Stories, the real experiences and anecdotes only you have
- Opinions, your actual takes, including the spiky ones you'd defend
- Speaking patterns, how you build a point, your verbal habits
- Sentence rhythm, short and punchy vs. long and winding; your natural pace
- Emotional tone, warm, blunt, funny, serious, self-deprecating
Capture these six richly and you can reproduce your voice on command. Miss them and you're left with "professional LinkedIn tone," which sounds like nobody.
the method: step by step
set up a deep-dive conversation (not a writing session)
Block ~2 hours. Get yourself talking naturally and at length about your expertise, your stories, and your opinions, the way you would to a smart friend. Voice doesn't show up in a 10-minute summary. It shows up when you relax, go on tangents, and tell the story you weren't planning to tell.
ask questions that pull out the six ingredients
Don't ask "what do you want to post about." Ask: "Tell me about a time something went wrong at work." "What's a take in your industry most people get wrong?" "Walk me through how you actually do the thing you're known for." Follow every interesting answer with "what happened next?" The gold is usually two questions deeper than the first answer.
capture it as a transcript, word for word
Record and transcribe the whole thing. Critically: do NOT clean it up into "proper writing" yet. The messy, spoken version is where the real phrasing, rhythm, and personality live.
mine the transcript for posts
Go through it hunting for the extractable moments, a story, a strong opinion, a surprising insight, a lesson. Each is a potential post. A rich 2-hour transcript contains dozens.
rebuild each moment as a post, keeping your words
Hook with the most arresting line; tell the body the way you told it out loud; close with the lesson or a question. The rule: you're restructuring your words, not replacing them. If you find yourself swapping your phrasing for "better" writing, stop, you're sanding off the voice.
if you use ai, feed it the transcript, not a prompt
Give it your transcript as the source material, your actual words, and have it assemble posts from that. The input is you, so the output sounds like you. Then curate every post by hand; never just publish what comes out.
the test: does it actually sound like you?
- Read it aloud. If it doesn't sound like how you'd actually say it, it fails.
- The "anyone" test. Could this have been written by any other professional in your field? If yes, it's generic.
- The "knows-you" test. Would someone who knows you well recognise this as you? The highest bar, and the one that matters.
If a post fails any of these, the fix is almost always the same: go back to the transcript and put more of your actual words back in.
why this beats both human writers and generic ai
Vs. a human writer: a ghostwriter takes weeks to learn your voice and still drifts. This captures it in a single session and reproduces it consistently from the same source every time. It doesn't get tired and it doesn't drift.
Vs. generic AI: most AI content fails because generic prompt → generic output. This feeds AI your actual words from a deep transcript, so the output starts from you, not the average of the internet. Plus every post is human-curated.
